BH21 7ABMermaid Experiences run on a monthly basis on Sunday afternoons, and they are a fun packed hour session.
-
An hour-long session where we assess the child’s swim ability, choose a tail, follow a demonstration with techniques and tricks. Then we play mermaid games from treasure hunts to races!
Who can join?
8 – 14 years (without Adult in the water with child): The child must be 8 or over and be able to swim at least 25m confidently and unaided, and be able to float on their back.
The Mermaid Experiences are suitable for all abilities: Beginners, improvers and experienced mermaids. Some of our mermaids have been mermaiding with me for over 4 years, whilst others are completely brand new to this new exciting hobby. Your child will be hooked!
The cost of the experience includes hire of tail and fin, mermaid tuition from a qualified Fit2Fit Mermaid Instructor (myself - Eliza Star-Kelp!), mermaid games, a certificate, and photos and videos sent to your WhatsApp.
Mermaid experience overview
A typical Mermaid Experience starts with selecting a fin and tail (we have a huge selection), an on-land photo, followed by safety instructions. Children will complete a swimming assessment (without tail on) before they use their tail and fin.
Children will practise how to swim using a dolphin (mermaid) kick. They will then learn different ways of swimming with a tail: on the surface and under the water, using different strokes, turns and log rolls. They will learn to do mermaid somersaults, handstands and tail flips.
It's then time for some exciting mermaid games. These include treasure hunts (retrieving sinkers from the pool floor), relay races, swimming through floating and sinking hoops and in-between 'seaweed'! Our mermaids play games in groups, pairs and individually, and it's great fun. Sometimes they will create sequences of skills (a bit like synchronise swimming). The mermaid instructor (myself) teaches from the pool edge, giving technique guidance, encouragement and instruction. Activities are differentiated according to ability and experience. Many children return for many more Mermaid Experiences and the each experience builds on new skills learnt previously.
At the end of the Experience, there is a ‘free play’ session and photo shoot, with large floats, small inflatables, balls and music. Each child is presented with a certificate, which is numbered, and children enjoy collecting the certificates each time they do a Mermaid Experience!
All Mermaid Experiences/Classes are taught by fully qualified Fit2Fit Mermaid Instructor, Elizabeth Mills.
